Two-vehicle crash in Elkhart County, both drivers injured and cited

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind.-- Deputies with the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on Sept. 16 around 11:08 a.m. on C.R. 36 and E County Line Road.

Joseph Hershberger, resident of Goshen, was traveling west on 500 S east of E County Line Road when he ran a stop sign and struck another vehicle.

That car was traveling south on E County Line Road north of 500 S. The driver of that vehicle was Juan Gonzalez Murillo of Ligonier. 

Hershberger then struck a utility pole, and a fence, before rolling over on the passenger side. He then struck a shed at 64027 E County Line Rd. He was ejected and pinned under his car.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage from the accident.

Hershberger was transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for minor injuries and Murillo was transported to Parkview Fort Wayne Regional Hospital for unknown injuries.

Hershberger was not wearing a seatbelt and was cited for disregarding a stop sign resulting in bodily injury.

Murillo was cited for operating a motor vehicle without ever receiving a license.

The investigation is still ongoing.
