20-year-old man dead from shooting in Benton Harbor

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. - The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety reports that officers responded to the BP Station at 202 North Fair Ave, for a complaint of a large crowd, on Sunday, May 19, at 2:10 a.m.

While enroute, officers heard gunfire and continued to the scene.

Authorities say Upon arrival, officers observed a large group of people, fleeing in all directions.

After police secured the scene, they located a man who was deceased.

Authorities identified the man as 20-year-old Marcus James Johnson, a current Benton Harbor resident.

Johnson's body was turned over to WMED for an autopsy and cause of death.

Johnson's family has been notified.

Two other people were injured and drove themselves to a local hospital with injuries and were treated and released.

BHDPS is currently seeking the identification and any information about the unidentified male in the picture
below.

This incident remains under investigation with assistance from Michigan State Police Major Case Team, Michigan State Police K-9 units, and Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.
