ELKHART COUNTY— Round Barn Theatre in Nappanee has kicked off its 2021 season with a musical production of Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame.
A lot of local theatres were forced to cancel their shows last year due to the pandemic. Operations Manager, Alex Price, said that wasn't the case at the Round Barn Theatre. The Round Barn were able to hold three productions in 2020 with approval and oversight from the Elkhart County Health Department.
The Disney classic is based on the French Gothic novel by Victor Hugo of the same name. The plot and narrative are a bit darker than most of Disney’s other animated films. It follows a bell ringer at the Notre Dame cathedral, Quasimodo, and the difficulties he faces trying to fit into society. He wants to be surrounded by other people but is held captive by his caretaker Frollo. One day he escapes and meets a gypsy named Esmeralda. Frollo embarks on a mission to destroy the gypsies and it's up to Quasimodo to save everyone.
