BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. - Southwest Enforcement Team detectives, along with the Fifth District Crime Prevention Squad, arrested a 22-year-old parolee March 2, following a traffic stop on Pipestone Road in Benton Township, according to officials.

Troopers tried to pull the man over but when he didn't stop, a chase began.

Law enforcement had to stop the chase, however, due to unsafe conditions.

The suspect's vehicle was later discovered abandoned near Marion Avenue and Parker Avenue in Benton Harbor.

A perimeter was established and troopers eventually saw the suspect running, according to the report.

Officials say after a short chase, the suspect was captured and arrested without further incident.

During a search of the suspect’s vehicle, a large amount of fentanyl and methamphetamine were found packaged for distribution, along with other evidence of narcotic trafficking, reports said.

The suspect was taken to the Berrien County Jail on various felony charges, including parole violations, flee and elude, resisting and obstructing, maintaining a drug vehicle, and possession with intent to deliver fentanyl and methamphetamine.

The name of the arrested suspect is being withheld pending court arraignment.
