ELKHART, Ind. – Elkhart firefighters will be receiving new body armor due to a new grant.

According to our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth, the grant comes from Firehouse Subs.

The Elkhart Fire Department will receive around $25,000 from the grant, Fire Chief Steve Kamp said.

This will allow for 40 sets of new body armor for the first responders.

Bulletproof vests will be utilized by every firefighter on any shift, allowing a safer response to emergencies for the Fire Department.

Firehouse Subs gifted a similar grant to the South Bend Fire Department in August of 2019.
