3 Michiana schools awarded Blue Ribbon by U.S. Department of Education!
NEW CARLISLE, Ind. -- Each year, the U.S. Department of Education gives out Blue Ribbon Awards to outstanding schools, and 3 of our own here in Michiana are recognized this year!
Of the 353 schools recognized across the country, 22 were from Indiana or Michigan.
The award is widely based on a school’s overall academic excellence or its progress in closing achievement gaps in student subgroups.
A school must check off a lot of boxes to be eligible for a Blue Ribbon, like meeting their state’s performance targets for things like reading, math, attendance and graduation rates.
Rolling Prairie Elementary School in New Carlisle, Jimtown Intermediate School in Elkhart and Roosevelt Elementary School in Stevensville are our local Blue Ribbon schools!
The U.S. Department of Education also deemed Rolling Prairie Elementary a ‘Family Friendly School’. It’s also the first elementary school in the Hoosier state to receive the project ADAM heart safe school designation for its successful responsive plan to sudden cardiac arrest awareness by staff and students.
Rolling prairie is proud to have 11 staff members who used to be students at the elementary school.
18 staff members also have or have had children or grandchildren attend the school.

Congratulations to all our local national Blue Ribbon schools!
