4-year-old child on scooter run over

The Warsaw Police Department has released new details in the accident that injured a 4-year-old who was run over by a vehicle in the Shamrock Mobile Home Park Monday afternoon.

Warsaw Police were called to the Shamrock Mobile Home Park on Anchorage Road just after 5 p.m. Monday.

The driver told police he was headed southbound through the park when he saw a small child on a scooter in the middle of the road. He drove around the child.

The passenger said after driving by the child, the child followed the truck and tried to put his hands on the back of the bumper, according to police.

When the driver arrived to his destination, he backed up to parallel park and felt the vehicle roll over something, police said.

After getting out of his vehicle, the driver realized he had backed over a child and called 9-1-1.

The child was taken to Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital for treatment. His condition has not been released.

Police said alcohol is not considered to be a factor but blood draw results are pending.
