4th of July celebration in Niles cancelled

NILES, Mich. – The City Council in Niles announced that the fireworks celebration on July 4 has been cancelled this year.

After deliberations between City staff and partners involved in the fireworks event, it was determined that preparations for the celebration could not be completed.

The organizers of the celebration emphasized that the safety and quality of the event is what is most important in making this decision.

The City also said that there were difficulties in securing commitments from vendors.

The Governor’s Executive Order, which does not allow for gatherings in excess of 250 at an outdoor event, also factored in to the cancellation.

The City says that they are, however, exploring their options for a celebration later in the year.
