525 Foundation collects over 2,000 pounds of unused medication during DEA Take Back Day
Over 2,000 pounds of unused and expired medications are being safely disposed of after a drug collection event hosted by the 525 Foundation on Saturday.
The event was part of the bi-annual Drug Enforcement Administration Take Back Day, which encourages community members to drop off unused medication to be properly disposed of in order to minimize the effects of drug abuse in the United States.
A total of 2,200 pounds of medication were collected across seven Michiana locations.
Becky Savage, the president and founder of the 525 Foundation, said Saturday's Take Back Day was one of the best she's seen since she started the foundation.
"Despite the weather, this was one of the biggest take back days we’ve had in our 6-year history," said Savage. "This makes me believe that our hard work about prevention is really hitting home."
