57 Pep Talks: Former Bethel men’s basketball Coach Mike Lightfoot

ABC57 Saturday Kickoff host Allison Hayes is sharing messages of hope from those with ties to Michiana who are still finding ways to spread positivity despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

Legendary Bethel University men’s basketball Coach Mike Lightfoot is an NAIA Hall of Fame inductee, a six time Coach of the Year, and in 30 seasons, Lightfoot led the Pilots to seven national championships and 894 wins.

Lightfoot now travels the country mentoring coaches at all levels of the game.

He offered this message of hope.

“Just want to give you hope.  I think this is a time of uncertainty. I’m reminded of a book that I read often, that in 366 times in that book it says, ‘fear not.’ And ironically look at what we’re in, we’re in a leap year, 366 days. I think that we need to understand that we really shouldn’t fear.  What we should do is be active in goodness and kindness and trying to reflect on our lives but also look at a time when we can be a light.  We can do some great things with people, people around us in special ways. Maybe by just sending them a letter, sending them an email, giving them a call of some type, those are all things that are great light. And so at this time when there’s a lot of issues going around in this world, draw on yourself, make sure you’re not fearing. Make sure you’re looking for opportunities that impact lives in a special special way.  And great things, our best days are yet to come.  This is Mike Lightfoot signing off, God bless you.”
