7th annual Zombie Walk happening Saturday

Downtown South Bend is turning into a scene from the Walking Dead. The 7th annual South Bend Zombie Walk festival kicks off Saturday at noon.

It will be held at Howard Park and will have about 30-40 different vendors. That will include food, make-up artists, contests, and raffles such as a race car tire autographed by retired NASCAR drivers. There will also be Friday the 13th memorabilia.

The event is also a way to collect items for those in need. They collect canned foods and donate them to the Food Bank of Northern Indiana.

“It helps your community. Yeah I mean it’s a lot of fun and all that stuff but it’s a great cause, like you never know who’s going to need that for the holidays or just in general,” said Megahn Lewis, Event Coordinator of the Zombie Walk.

This year Zombie Walk organizers are joining forces with the Niles Scream Park and they are hoping for the biggest turnout yet.

“We’re a non-profit ourselves so last year we gave over $100,000 to local charities and this is just one more opportunity to extend our hand to the community,” said Park Manager of the Niles Scream Park Matt Herm.

The actual Zombie Walk will kick off at 6 p.m. and the event will conclude at 9 p.m.
