8-year-old accused of hitting mom, stabbing her with screwdriver

ELKHART, Ind. – An eight-year-old was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly hitting his mom and stabbing her with a screwdriver, the Elkhart Police Department reported.

At 3:53 p.m., an officer went to the 300 block of Wagner Avenue for a domestic disturbance report involving an eight-year-old male.

The victim, the juvenile’s mother, said the eight-year-old ran out of the apartment without permission.

She chased him and tackled him just east of the parking bay, and the juvenile then pulled out a screwdriver and allegedly struck her in the hand with it, according to reports.

The juvenile allegedly kicked the victim and hit her multiple times in the stomach and chest area, reports said.

The juvenile was arrested for domestic battery with a deadly weapon and taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.
