Communities across Michiana are commemorating the 20th anniversary of 9/11 with a number of events and ceremonies.


Michigan 

Berrien County

9/11 20th Year Memorial (Benton Harbor) – The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety, along with the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety and the Benton Charter Township Police and Fire Departments are hosting a memorial on September 10 at noon at the 911 Resiliency Plaza in downtown Benton Harbor. September 11th 20-year memorial service (Niles) – The Pokagon Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a memorial service on September 11 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Fire Department at 31555 Pokagon Highway in Niles. Learn more

9/11 Remembrance and Fundraiser (Stevensville) – Lincoln Charter Township Firefighters are hosting a 9/11 remembrance and fundraiser event at the Rockey Weed Soccer Complex at 7:30 p.m. on September 11. Learn more

Patriot Day Art (Edwardsburg) – The Cass District Library is hosting a Patriot Day art event on September 9 at 3 p.m. Guests are invited to create a flag art piece to honor the lives of those who died in the September 11 attacks. Learn more

Patriot Day 20th Anniversary (South Haven) – The American Legion Post 49 is hosting a ceremony to commemorate 20 years since 9/11 at its Post in South Haven. Learn more

Marshall County

9/11 Remembrance Walk & Ceremony (Argos) – The Argos Community Development Corporation is recognizing 9/11 with a remembrance walk and ceremony from Argos Community Schools to Memorial Park beginning at 5:30 p.m. Learn more

St. Joseph County

University of Notre Dame (South Bend) – The University of Notre Dame is commemorating 20 years since the September 11 attacks in several ways, including a 30-minute prayer service and a commemoration immediately prior to the Notre Dame vs. Toledo game. Learn more

Ringing of the Bell ceremony (South Bend) – St. Joseph County Parks is commemorating 20 years since 9/11 with the Clay Fire Territory, Mishawaka Fire, and South Bend Fire on September 11 at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick’s County Park. Learn more

March to the Memorial (South Bend) – March to the Memorial is a 21-mile walk in memory of those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks. The route will begin at Martin’s Super Market on Ireland Road and end at the 9/11 memorial at St. Patrick’s County Park. Learn more

Patriots Day Event with Memphis Underground (Mishawaka) – The VFW Post 360 is hosting a Patriots Day event from 3 to 8 p.m. on September 11. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 day of and money supports the Post. Learn more

Performance of Ordinary Days (South Bend) – The Visual and Performing Arts Magnet of South Bend Clay High School, in collaboration with Art 4, will perform the musical Ordinary Days on September 11 at 7 p.m. in the high school's auditorium in tribute to the lives lost and families affected by the terrorist attacks.
