All-accessible Normain Park opens its gates for Mishawaka community
MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Normain Park and Miracle League celebrate opening day with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The all-accessible park and baseball complex is designed to ensure individuals of all abilities can participate, play, and thrive together.
The new Miracle League Complex will create an opportunity for the Mishawaka community to gather.
"Playing baseball and showing my friends down here a little bit, showing my friend down here what it is and what it means," said Zachary Tuttle, a player in the Miracle Baseball League.
The focus of the project was on inclusion for special needs children and adults.
"Today we dedicate hope. We dedicate opportunity, and we dedicate belonging, and we dedicate the promise that every child, every young adult, every family, regardless of ability, deserves a chance, and experience the joy of the game, the experience of hearing their name announced, and encouragement of teammates, and the feeling that comes from crossing home plate as people cheer on," said Dave Wood, mayor of Mishawaka.
The park will also include a splash pad, softball field, Sona Arch Interactive Play Feature, modern pavilions, restroom facility with adult changing tables, expanded parking, an entry plaza, a jumbotron video board, and accessible bleachers.
