Car Show raises funds for Deputy Jon Samuelson

ROLLING PRAIRIE, Ind. -- The Outsiders Auto Club Car Show occurs in Rolling Prairie annually, raising funds for the local humane society as car enthusiasts gather.

This year, they raised a little extra.

Organizers took in donations for Laporte Deputy Jon Samuelson, who was shot in the line of duty three weeks ago in Michigan City.

Today, Deputy Samuelson is rehabbing at a specialized facility. His family shared an update, saying he’s doing four to five hours of physical therapy daily.

While he recovers, the community has been showing support. From restaurants like Culver’s and Hacienda organizing day of giving dining events, to the Sheriff’s Office setting up a fund for Deputy Samuelson and his family with Horizon Bank.

At the car show, Outsiders Auto Club collected more community donations and delivered them to Laporte County Sheriff Ron Heeg.

“It's organizations like you guys are what makes the community here a special place,” Sherrif Heeg said, “We’ve received so much community support over the last three weeks that it has just been absolutely amazing.”
