ELKHART, Ind. — The Elkhart Rotary Club organized the 10th annual First Responder Luncheon on Monday morning, kicking off National Police Week. The First Responder Luncheon featured speakers from various departments and included remarks from Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson.
“Ten years ago, we wanted to honor our first responders, so we started a luncheon. We hold it every year during Police Week. This is National Police Week, so we invite as many first responders in Elkhart County as we can to come have lunch,” Mayor Rod Roberson said.
At this year’s luncheon, Elkhart firefighter Cody Sposato received the Life Safety Award for saving a person who had been trapped in a crash.
National Police Week honors first responders such as police officers, firefighters and 911 dispatchers for their courage, service and sacrifice.
