New State Road 2 study set to focus on safety and future growth

New Carlisle, Ind. – On Tuesday, the Indiana Department of Transportation held a public meeting at New Prairie High School as part of its ProPEL State Road 2 Study.

The study is to focus more on safety, traffic and future growth for the road.

The two-year-long study will cover 13 miles from west of U.S. 20 in La Porte County to East of U.S. 20 in St. Joseph County.

The study will allow INDOT and the community to work together in the planning process before the projects are identified.

ProPEL will look at crash data, safety data and so will existing and future traffic conditions.

While no construction decisions have been made yet, INDOT says that they want to keep the public’s safety at the top of their list and want to hear their suggestions on how to make the road safer.

INDOT plans to host more local community input sessions before drafting a project plan.
