UPDATE: Suspect arrested in connection with fatal crash Saturday night

UPDATE: South Bend Police Department confirmed Monday night a suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal crash Saturday night.

On June 27, around 10:30 p.m., officers responded to the area of McKinley and Manchester on a report of a single-vehicle crash with injuries.

Upon arrival, officers located a sedan that had struck the back of a parked, unoccupied tow truck in a nearby parking lot.

The sedan had two occupants: the driver, 26-year-old Dadranae Taylor, and the passenger, 24-year-old Naomie Gregory. Gregory suffered severe injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police said Taylor admitted at the scene to drinking earlier in the night before the crash. St. Joseph County FACT Team was then requested to take over the investigation.

While being evaluated at the hospital, Taylor admitted to having a couple drinks and smoking marijuana. Taylor then stated she began driving because Gregory was too drunk to drive. Taylor told officers she could not remember what happened or how the crash occurred.

Taylor was later taken into custody and transported to the St. Joseph County Jail.

On Monday, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office filed charges against Taylor in connection with the crash: 

  • Causing death when operating a vehicle while intoxicated (Level 4 Felony)
  • Reckless homicide (Level 5 Felony)

UPDATE: St. Joseph County FACT Team is continuing to investigate a crash that has led to a fatality overnight in South Bend.

On June 27, around 10:30 p.m., SBPD responded to the area of Mckinley and Manchester on a report of a single-vehicle crash with injuries.

Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle that had struck a parked, unoccupied tow truck in a parking lot.

The passenger suffered serious injuries and was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was taken to the hospital for evaluation but did not sustain major injuries. Through an initial investigation by the St. Joseph FACT team, the driver was then arrested and transported to the St. Joseph County Jail in connection with the crash.


ORIGINAL STORY: SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Just around 10:30 p.m. South Bend Police responded to a single vehicle crash with severe injuries on McKinley and Manchester. 

Due to the severity of the crash, the investigation was passed off to St. Joseph County FACT. 

Traffic is restricted at the crash site and is advised to avoid the area. 

The crash remains under investigation.
