Woman and child thrown from buggy after being struck by pick-up truck

ABC 57

LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. -- A 5-month-old child and 25-year-old woman were thrown from their buggy after a pick-up truck struck them from behind Wednesday afternoon.

The LaGrange County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to the 3000 block of South S.R. 9 around 2:52 p.m. for the crash.

The report states a Ford F-150, driven by 77-year-old Leroy Brown of Wolcottville, was traveling south on S.R. 9, just south of C.R. 300.

Brown told deputies he didn’t see the horse-drawn buggy, also traveling south ahead of him, and struck it.

The buggy operator, a 25-year-old woman, told authorities she was traveling south on S.R. with a 5-month-old and 2-year-old as passengers when they were struck from behind.

The woman and 5-month-old were both thrown from the buggy, leaving the child with a head injury and the woman with a back injury.

The 2-year-old suffered injuries all over his body. Brown was uninjured.

The woman and children were all taken to Parkview Regional Hospital.

Deputies say the occupants of the buggy weren't wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
