A sweet and snowy full moon

February:  the month of love, chocolates and snow?

According to the Native Americans this month was the snowiest and therefore nicknamed The Snow Moon.  

The interesting thing is that this month has been very snowy!  We are already 10" above normal in terms of snowfall for the month with even more ahead for the rest of the week.  

The harsh weather conditions also spawned the nickname, The Full Hunger Moon since hunting was difficult.

Other nicknames include:

Storm Moon (nicknamed for the blizzards), Bony Moon, Trapper's Moon, Budding Moon, Little Famine Moon, Moon of the Raccoon, Moon When Trees Pop, Moon of Ice, Starving Moon, Wind Moon, Moon of Scattering Leaves over the Snow Crust and the Black Bear Moon.
