AAA reactivates its "Tow to Go" service this St. Patrick's Day weekend

NOW: AAA reactivates its “Tow to Go“ service this St. Patrick’s Day weekend

AAA is doing its part to reduce the number of drunk drivers on the road this St Patrick’s Day weekend.

It’s Tow to Go program returns this weekend. It is an extension of the AAA’s mission to keep drivers safe on the road.

Tow to Go is a great option for impaired drivers and their vehicles to get to a safe location within 10 miles. It is a confidential service that provides a local ride for one person.

The service is free for both members and non-members, but AAA spokesperson, Molly Hart, wants to remind drivers to always have a designated driver first.

“This is a last resort, but if you need to have someone get you home safely and you’re impaired and don’t have a designated driver, we recommend that you call,” said Hart.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than one third of fatal car crashes involve a drunk driver. And on St. Patrick’s Day weekend, from 2016 to 2020, 287 lives were lost from drinking and driving.

On average, one person dies every 48 minutes from drinking and driving.

Hart wants drivers to remember to always consider other drivers on the road.

“On the road, impaired, is putting not only yourself in danger but other drivers on the road, and that includes grandparents, parents, teenagers and even kids that are in the car."

The service started on Thursday at 6pm and runs until 6 am Monday morning.
To use the service call 855-2-TOW-2-GO or 855-286-9246.
