Accident involving a truck leaves a man dead

GOSHEN, Ind. -- Officials of the Goshen Police Department reported that officers were called at 2:48 p.m. on Friday to an accident involving a truck that left a bystander dead near the 1300 block of East Lincoln Avenue.

Police say that a man was delivering food in his truck at the Goshen Church of God where 73-year-old Jack Hurd of Goshen was helping the driver direct his vehicle.

While the truck was moving in reverse, police report that the driver’s foot left the brake pedal and hit the gas pedal.

Police say this resulted in the truck backing up onto the church’s patio and pinning Hurd against the building.

Hurd was pronounced dead at the scene after paramedics attempted life saving measures, police say.
