Additional charges filed in fatal hit and run on SR23

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office has filed additional charges against the man who is accused of striking pedestrian Stephen Stetz with his vehicle.

Mark Madejek, 38, was initially charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury and driving while suspended resulting in serious bodily injury.

With the death of Stetz, Madejek faces additional charges of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and driving while suspended resulting in death have been filed.

The state has also asked for increased bond.

On October 17, St. Joseph County Police say Madejek was driving his Jeep Cherokee north on SR 23 near Ironwood when he struck Stetz.

Witnesses told police they saw Madejek get out of his car and say something, then he fled the scene.
