Allegations of grade inflation and improper credits

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- ABC57's Jackie Bauer spoke with South Bend Community School Corporation's Interim Superintendent Mansour Eid. This was after Monday night's three-and-a-half-hour school board meeting.

The preliminary results from the independent investigations released on Monday night have raised concerns. Those preliminary findings were improper credits given out, 86 percent graduation rate questioned, and widespread grade inflation. Eid says that these findings are not final while the investigation continues. He will keep the public informed every step of the way.

“Basically, we’re taking this seriously I mean we’re not…We are not going to cover anything up. We are taking it seriously and if the allegations are true and that stuff did happen that we are going to address that. We are going to put in place from happening in the future,” said Eid.

On Friday, May 2, there will be a meeting between school board lawyers and state auditors to discuss the next steps. This meeting will also look into the corporation's finances as well. The next school board meeting will be held on May 12.
