CUYAHOGA COUNTY, Ohio -- Cathy and Michael Minix were back in Ohio court Wednesday, where they pleaded not guilty to their charges of robbery, aggravated theft, and assault.
This comes after the couple allegedly attacked two people outside a cat show in Cuyahoga County, stealing two Maine Coon show cats, Nimbus and Luna, valued at over $8,000 combined. Turns out, the Minixes were the ones who sold those cats to the couple they're now accused of robbing.
This all took place outside the Cuyahoga County fairgrounds in Berea, Ohio, on Oct. 4. The victims in the case allege they were attacked from behind as they were unloading their car and slammed to the ground. The cat carrier holding Nimbus and Luna was ripped from their hands.
Both have been indicted on four charges of robbery, one charge of aggravated theft, and two charges of assault.
Both Cathy and Michael Minix had lawyers present in court for their not guilty pleas. Their bonds were set at $10,000 each and on the condition of no contact with the victims.
For their part, the Minixes allege the cat Nimbus wasn't paid for, so they were entitled to take him back.
However, the two were pulled over in Elkhart County as they were driving back to their Mishawaka home, with both cats in tow.
Nimbus and Luna have been returned to the couple the Minixes allegedly attacked.
Cathy and Michael were held at Elkhart County Jail before extradition back to the Buckeye State.
Their first pre-trial hearing has been set for Nov. 5 at 9 a.m. in Cuyahoga County Court.
Cathy Minix runs Daisy Dukes Maine Coon in Michiana. A local animal advocate spoke with ABC57's Annie Kate, and said she's acting as caretaker in her absence, keeping all the animals on the property safe. She said she's been dealing with break-ins since the Minixes' arrest and is begging the community to stop.
