Amateur racers learn from motocross legends

BUCHANAN, Mich. -- This weekend Buchanan will host the Lucas Oil Pro National MX Series, Round 7 at RedBud Trail. But before the big weekend, amateur riders from across the U.S. are learning the sport from Ricky Carmichael.

As part of Ricky Carmichael University, the amateur racers are getting to kick up dirt on a professional track.

This weekend, thousands of fans will attend the professional race.

"This race has such a great vibe to it. The people are awesome, it’s Fourth of July weekend. This race has always been fun even when I was racing this was my favorite place to go,” said Carmichael.

For racer Carey Hart, he says it feels like he's gone full circle coming back to RedBud to help with RCU.

"The ironic thing is when I was here racing I was racing out of the back of my van and now I'm here with my team and we own a semi. It’s been ironic and full circle but a lot of fun,” said Hart.

Amateur racing is Friday.

All the pro racing gets underway on Saturday for round seven of the Lucas Oil Pro National MX Series.
