AMBER Alert: Child allegedly taken by father in Ohio located safe in Rochester, Indiana
An Amber Alert was issued for a 10-month-old Ohio boy Tuesday morning after he was allegedly abducted by his father.
The Amber Alert stated James Christopher Ramey, 27, and 10-month-old Winston Ramey were in a black 2006 Town and Country van, possibly headed to Chicago.
Around 10 a.m., the Fulton County Sheriff's Department learned the vehicle might be in Marshall County. Two deputies on US31 spotted the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, according to Fulton County Sheriff Chris Sailors.
"Suspect that was listed in the Amber alert was taken into custody. At this point in time we have him lodged, or held in our jail, pending the investigation," Sailors said. "Holding him for now until Fulton County Ohio gets whatever paperwork they need around and of course, FBI," Sailors said.
Winston and Debra Mangas, the child's step grandmother, were found safe, according to Sailors.
"She’s ok. She’s currently being interviewed by FBI and like I said, that’s about all I can answer at this point. I don’t have too many more details," Sailors said. "We did call our local Child Protective Services in to assist us with the child, make sure of the well being of the child at this point."
Debra Mangas' sister, Dede Ruckman says Debra is "shaken up," but is able to share information with investigators.
Ruckman says the Amber Alert system saved her sister's life.
"That's how my sister and the baby ended up surviving," Ruckman said.
Just after 5 a.m. Tuesday, James allegedly kicked in the door of Amanda Mangas' home, shot her and took Winston, according to 13ABC in Toledo.
Amanda died at the hospital.
"Sweet, sweet girl, good mother, loving mother," Ruckman said to describe her step-niece.
Amanda recently took out a protection order and started dating someone else. Amanda had been living with her dad and stepmother, Debra, according to 13ABC.
Ramey has already been charged with the murder out of Fulton County, Ohio.
