SOUTH BEND, Ind. --The annual Spelling Bee Explosion will take place at the Century Center this weekend.
On Sunday at 1 p.m. the nonprofit group Gentlemen and Scholars will be hosting their spelling bee with a twist.
Additional events will be added to the standard spelling like spoken word and dance performances.
20 high school students and 30 middle schoolers will take part in the competition.
Students will have the opportunity to win prizes and show off their spelling skills.
“Any kid who enters our spelling bee is an automatic winter soon as you come in the door before you even spell a word you were automatically winning because you’re showing your city you’re showing your community what you’re made of and that you’re smart and that your articulate,” William Douglas, Director of Gentleman and Scholars, said.
The top five high school winners and top five middle school winners will be honored at a symposium with their parents and classmates.
