Annual Workers' Memorial Day Service held at Howard Park

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Dozens gathered in South Bend on Friday to remember those who lost their lives on the job.

The United Way of St. Joseph County and the ALF-CIO hosted the Annual Workers' Memorial Day Service at Howard Park.

The annual service also honors those who make workplaces safer for employees.

The ALF-CIO said an average of two people die on the job each week in Indiana.

"We're here to talk about the thousands that, that still happens to, but we're also here to celebrate what kind of positive things we can do, such as labor management safety programs & improve the workplace for everyone," said Tony Flora of the Indiana ALF-CIO.

National Workers' Memorial Day coincides with the annversary of the passage of the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
