Anti-teen dating violence event held at Gillespie Conference Center

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – An Anti-teen Dating Violence event was held at the Gillespie Conference Center in South Bend Sunday afternoon.

The event started at 4 p.m. and was meant to promote awareness of the dangerous circumstances some teens face nowadays.

Teen dating violence has become more prominent and spoken of over the last few years, and this event was held in order to raise awareness for teens and parents both.

The event was open mic in order to promote inclusivity, fellowship and unification in order to discuss the facts surrounding teen dating violence.

Some topics that were raised include:

-          33% of teens in abusive relationships do not disclose the abuse

-          81% of parents do not believe in teen dating violence or admit they don’t know

-          21% of females and 10% of males experience physical and or sexual dating violence in high school

-          1 in 3 teens are exposed to dating violence by their high school partners

The event was sponsored by Ocean of Opportunity Corp. which is a nonprofit organization.
