Apartment fire in South Bend overnight

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - South Bend firefighters responded to an apartment fire on the city's far west side around midnight Monday morning.

Fire officials say they encountered heavy smoke and fire but were able to gain control of the fire while evacuating the apartment unit.

No injuries were reported.

Crews responded to a second fire around 5 a.m. Monday, in a residential structure.

Firefighters quickly put out the attic fire, limiting damage to the residence.

Fire officials have released no further information on either fire at this time.
