Area high school students compete in robotics competition at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Could this be a sneak peak into the future?

Several area high schools competing in the Boilermaker Regional Robotics Competition.

The first program integrates technology and sports.

This year, the theme is "Rebound Rumble". Robots are required to make basketball shots and balance on seesaws!

Organizers said the goal is to get students thinking.

"The whole thing is really about inspiration, more than about the competition. The competition is the vehicle we use, in which to inspire," said Steve Florence, the Robotics Competition Organizer.

40 schools entered the competition, including South Bend, Elkhart, Mishawaka, and Michigan City.

The free event wraps up on Saturday.

The winners move on to the International Championship next month in St. Louis!
