Armed robbery at Michigan City Family Express under investigation
LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind.—The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an armed robbery that happened on Wednesday night at a Family Express in Michigan City.
At approximately 10:04 p.m. on February 6, deputies were dispatched to the Family Express, located at 7687 West US 20, for reports of an armed robbery.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, three people approached the business’ entrance. One person held the door while the other two entered.
The two people jumped onto the counter and entered an employee area.
One person was armed with a hammer, according to police documents.
Reports said that two of the suspects then ordered the clerk to open the register, at which point the suspects removed $83 from the drawer.
All three suspects then left the business on foot, heading westbound.
Police say all three suspects are believed to be African American males, approximately 5’6”-5’9” in height and either in their late teens or early twenties.
