Armstrong had connections to Purdue and Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Neil Armstrong graduated from Purdue University with a degree in aeronautical engineering, but West Lafayette was not the only place in Indiana Armstrong received a degree.
On May 12, 1971, Father Hesburgh and the University of Notre Dame gave Armstrong an honorary degree here in Notre Dame.
