Army Reserves members from South Bend are heading to Guantanamo Bay

MISHAWAKA, Ind. - - Hundreds of people came together in Mishawaka today to say good-bye.

One-hundred twenty-four soldiers from the 428th company of the Army Reserves are heading to Guantanamo Bay in just a few days!

Family and friends gathered at Mishawaka High School to send them off properly Saturday.

Even Mayor Pete Buttigieg was on hand to honor these folks for their service.

One soldier we talked to said he is just proud to serve his country.

"You know I'm full of pride. I get to serve my country. I mean, this is the greatest thing I could do for my country," said Shawn Slater.

These soldiers meet to train once a month in South Bend as part of the reserve program for the army.
