Arrest made in 2010 murder
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – A 20-year-old South Bend man has been charged in the 2010 murder of William Williams, according to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.
Javon Thomas was charged with murder on February 19, 2013.
According to the prosecutor’s office, South Bend Police were called to the 1300 block of North College Street to investigate a shooting on November 1, 2010. Upon arrival they found Williams with a gunshot wound to the torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
While investigating, the County Metro Homicide Unit discovered that the night of the shooting Williams, a member of the gang 187, was at a party hosted by 187.
Witnesses told police a man stepped from behind a neighboring home and fired multiple shots.
Thomas was a member of a rival gang called Cash Out Boyz, according to the arrest affidavit.
The person who allegedly drove Thomas to the scene of the shooting confronted Thomas about the incident. He allegedly confessed to her that he had shot Williams, according to the arrest affidavit.
Another member of Cash Out Boyz told investigators Thomas shot Williams in retaliation for a previous shooting, according to the arrest affidavit.
Thomas believed Williams had “shot up” a Cash Out Boyz party, according to the arrest affidavit.
Multiple Cash Out Boyz members told investigators that Thomas admitted to shooting Williams, according to the arrest affidavit.
