Arrest made in shooting death of Michigan City teenager
Michigan City Police Dept. MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- There's been an update to a sad case out of Michigan City last week.
On May 15, Michigan City police were called to a scene where a juvenile was shot. The victim,14-year-old Devin Porter was transported to the hospital but later died from his injuries.
Since the incident, Detectives worked to interview witnesses, attempt to identify a suspect(s), search for video surveillance and collect additional evidence.
Detectives then identified 19-year-old Michigan City resident Marcus Ballinger Jr. as a suspect during this investigation. Ballinger Jr. was located and taken into custody in the 1200 block of Ohio Street on May 19 at approximately 11:15 a.m.
LaPorte County Circuit Court Judge Julianne Havens found probable cause on May 21 to charge Ballinger Jr. with one count of Murder, a felony and Ballinger Jr. was issued a $1,000,000 cash bond.
This investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are expected to take place.
