The St. Joseph County Special Victims Unit and several area police agencies participated in a warrant sweep on Wednesday to arrest people with outstanding family-violence warrants.
The Mishawaka Police Department's Street Crimes Unit, the St. Joseph County Police Department's Warrants Division and the South Bend Police Department's Strategic Focus Unit all participated in the sweep.
St. Joseph County Prosecutor Ken Cotter said each agency identified the individuals who were most dangerous to the victims and which of those had active warrants.
Officers from each agency spent from midnight to noon on Wednesday looking for the individuals who were targets of the sweep.
Twelve people were arrested throughout the day including 5 in Mishawaka, 4 in unincorporated St. Joseph County and 2 in South Bend.
