Art Walk hosted at Indiana Dunes National Park Aug. 17
PORTER, Ind. -- Indiana Dunes National Park is hosting its first "Art Walk" event from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17.
The Art Walk invites family, friends, and artists to wander ravines, open fields, and historical buildings along the Bailly and Chellberg trails.
"Get inspired and create your own artwork at different stations along the way with help from local collaborators including Art Barn of Valparaiso, Chesterton Art Center, and South Shore Arts of Munster," organizers said.
Event organizers say National Parks have always been an inspiration for artwork, harkening back to artists like George Catlin, Thomas Coles, and many more.
"Their works brought attention to the value of these lands that may have otherwise gone unnoticed," organizers said. "Artists like Earl H. Reed and Frank Dudley, through their artwork, helped underscore the importance of preserving both the natural beauty and heritage of Indiana Dunes and other parks for future generations to come."
The park's Artist-In-Residence program offers professional artists an opportunity to live in the park for two weeks while they experience nature.
Indiana Dunes National Park will have an entrance fee of $25 per vehicle for a weekly pass. A $45 annual pass is also offered for the national park as well.
