ST.JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind.—Athletes from the St. Joseph County Special Olympics collected gift donations for the homeless at the Dollar General on Ireland Road.
The athletes decorated a tree inside Dollar General with tags on it for people to purchase items to be donated to the homeless.
“We’ve kind of put it out there on Facebook that we were going to do this. We hope to be at least able to get something even if it’s a can of soup and crackers to the homeless, something that they can open for Christmas…Michiana Five will pick up the gifts that are wrapped and they will distribute them to the homeless on Christmas,” said Lisa Gordon, Assistant County Coordinator for St.Joseph County Special Olympics.
Athletes from the organization will wrap the donated gifts so that the people receiving them will have something to open on Christmas.
They will be accepting gifts through the week of December 17.
