ATM fees on the rise as many banks cut back on services

NATIONAL -- ATM fees are rising to new levels as banks cut back on free checking accounts.

A new survey found ATM surcharges have gone up four percent hitting a record high for $2.50.

It is the eighth straight year these fees are up.

The charge for using another bank's ATM rose 11 percent to another $1.57.

The same survey found less than half of U.S. banks offer free non-interest checking accounts.
