GOSHEN, Ind --  ABC57’s Jackie Bauer joined Goshen Community Schools for the first day back!

Students made a staggered start to school on Tuesday, aimed at easing first-day nerves. Freshmen, 5th graders, 7th graders, and kindergarteners were the first to arrive, while the rest of the district heads back Wednesday.

Freshman shared their mixed first-day emotions.

This year also marks a heightened focus on growing Career and Technical Education offerings or CTE.

Later in their high school experience, students will have expanded access to career and technical education.

This is the first full school year that Goshen alum Jon Everingham will serve as CTE Director.

He says today’s programs are far more advanced and focused than what he experienced as a student, with better equipment.

Juniors and seniors enrolled in the program will spend half their day in hands-on learning environments, including an expanded new engineering technologies program.

CTE enrollment has jumped from just 30 students two years ago to more than 250 today. Everingham calls the program life-changing, especially for students who may have struggled in the past but are now discovering their passion.
