Bail agents allegedly involved in fatal shooting

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. -- The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department has released new details in the triple shooting Monday evening in Cromwell.



According to the sheriff's department, three people who are bail and recovery agents entered 9174 E. Doswell Drive just before 7 p.m. to serve a felony warrant on Gary Helman for failure to appear out of Kosciusko County.



The three agents were identified as Daniel Foster, 43, LaPorte, Michael C. Thomas, 36, Osceola, and Tad Martin, Osceola.


Foster is a registered Bail Agent, Thomas is a registered Recovery Agent and Martin is a registered Bail Agent.



According to the sheriff's department, the three men identified Gary Helman on the back deck of the residence.



When they engaged Helman, multiple rounds were fired inside and outside the home.



Tad Martin and Helman's brother Larry Helman were shot and seriously injured. They were located at the rear of the residence.



Gary Helman was found in a back bedroom with multiple gunshot wounds.



Martin and Larry were taken to Fort Wayne hospitals.



Gary was pronounced dead at the scene.



The investigation into the shooting is still ongoing.


According to court documents, Gary Helman was shot by police in April 2009 when they attempted to arrest him.


He later sued the officers for violating his Fourth Amendment rights by using deadly force against him.
