MUNCIE, Ind. -- According to ABC affiliate WRTV, Ball State University has moved all classes online following three geothermal pipe leaks over the past 24 hours, which knocked out air-conditioning during the ongoing heatwave.

“Wednesday evening, our university experienced a leak in the geothermal heating and cooling system that resulted in a campus-wide chilled water outage,” university officials said in a statement.

The university’s facilities, planning and management team is investigating the cause.

One of the leaks was reported to have happened Thursday night near the Teachers College.

A portion of the sidewalk also collapsed due to the pressure from the burst pipe.

Only essential employees are required on Ball State's campus Friday, according to the report.
