ELKHART, Ind. -- It was a small gesture with a big meaning.
The family of three people killed in a hit-and-run one year ago on Sunday released balloons in their honor.
A year after 22-year-old Shawn Wilcott, 8-month-old Dolly Smith, and 11-year-old Courtney Smith were hit and killed by a car that traveled off the road; the family says the pain is still there.
However, the family may soon see justice served.
Elkhart Police charged Penelope and Leonard Grosswiler when they turned themselves in for the crime nearly three months after the deadly crash.
They believe Penelope was driving and her husband was in the passenger seat.
Both of their jury trials are scheduled to start Nov. 5.
