Bank robbery suspect apprehended within 45 minutes

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- Michigan City Police arrested a suspect in a bank robbery within 45 minutes of the robbery.

Police were called to the PNC Bank on W US20 Wednesday around 10:45 a.m. for reports of a robbery at the bank.

The first officer on scene broadcast information regarding the suspect's description and direction of travel.

Multiple agencies, including the La Porte County Sheriff's Office and Trail Creek Town Marshal, joined in the search for the suspect.

A detective spotted a man matching the description of the suspect in the 4300 block of Franklin Street.

Additional officers were called to the scene to assist and the suspect was taken into custody.

The suspect, Derrick Richardson, was taken into custody on a preliminary count of robbery.
