Barricaded suspect previously involved in SWAT situation in Niles arrested

NILES, Mich.—The suspect who previously barricaded himself within his home and then fled the scene causing two schools to be on lock-down has been arrested.

According to a press release from Berrien County Sheriff's Office, deputies with the Road Patrol and Niles Township Patrol responded to a call reporting a disturbance on the 1600 block of Florence on Sunday afternoon.

Once on the scene, authorities were able to determine that the 21-year-old male from the incident on December 14th had barricaded himself inside his residence again.

After the exterior of the residence was secured, deputies were able to negotiate the suspect’s surrender.

The suspect was apprehended and taken to the Berrien County Jail on charges stemming from the December 14 incident.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police provided assistance.
