Battle over lease of Belle Isle in Detroit draws concerns from mayor

DETROIT, Mich. -- The battle over an island on the Detroit River is putting the state and the city of Detroit at odds.

Governor Rick Snyder wants to lease Belle Isle for 99 years.

Some people like the idea of leasing of the island, even if there's an admission fee.

"We love the island," Mike Holzhauer said. "We want to see the island the best kept it can be."

But the mayor of detroit has his doubts.

"The conversations are still going on. I'm sure that we will come to an agreement," Mayor Dave Bing said.

The mayor is concerned about the length of the lease. He also wants to see the state's exact plan for the park.

Belle Isle is the largest island city park in the country.
