THREE RIVERS, Mich. -- In an email sent to members of Beacon Health & Fitness, it was announced the Three Rivers fitness center, including the gym and pools, will close after almost 30 years of operation.

Beacon officials say the final day will be Sept. 30.

Outpatient therapy, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and cardiac rehabilitation, are set to remain open and continue serving patients.

Beacon fitness locations in Granger, Elkhart, and Kalamazoo are unaffected by this closure.

Officials stated members who have an All Access membership and are affected by this closure may make changes to their account by contacting their home club if need be.

Officials noted this decision came after Beacon Health & Fitness leaders explored a variety of ways to sustain the facility over the years, which included efforts to grow membership and expand programming.

Beacon says in the end, the fitness center wasn't generating enough revenue to support its ongoing operation.

Three Rivers Mayor Angel Johnston released the following statement regarding the closure announcement:

"Hi neighbors, I just heard that Beacon Health & Fitness will be closing at the end of the month. PT & OT will continue, minus aquatic therapies.

I know this will be very difficult for many, many people. One of my best friends participated in aquatic therapy after a major operation, and I saw how impactful it was for her physically and emotionally.

Additionally, I know so many people who utilize this facility for general health and exercise, especially in the winter when it's too cold to be outdoors.

Sadly, health care is a business, even when hospitals have nonprofit status (don't get me started on that, I could go on and on). Facilities must be able to sustain themselves financially. Unfortunately, the health center could not.

Please be extra kind to the folks who work at the facility and the hospital in general. It's not their fault, and some may even be losing their jobs, though I hope the hospital can place them in other departments.

Let's hope that something great will come from this loss."
