BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- The Benton Harbor Area Schools Board of Education has named Christopher Bernick as Interim Superintendent.

Bernick, current Director of Special Education for BHAS, will assist with the transition once a new superintendent is chosen, according to the school district.

The board also announced three superintendent finalists.

After conducting interviews with five candidates Saturday, the board chose Jeff Dase, Deputy Superintendent of the Rock Island-Milan School District, Simone Griffin, Regional Director of Learnwell Educational Services in Illinois, and Dallas Lee, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services and Opportunities of the Elementary School District 159 in Illinois.

The board invites community members to meet the three finalists during a Community Meet and Greet at the Benton Harbor High School Library on Tuesday, June 24 at 5 p.m.

The finalists' second interviews will immediately follow the meet and greet during the board's meeting at 6 p.m. The interviews will consist of a 10-minute presentation by each finalist on a topic of their choosing, followed by a 15-minute question and answer session with the public.

The board anticipates the selection of the new superintendent on July 8.
